After
getting over the initial shock, we realized we needed a game plan – and we
needed it quick! So, after much praying, talking to medical people, and doing
our own research, we decided to get a dynamic brace for Daryl. In October 2013,
Angie and Daryl headed to the Penang Adventist Hospital in Malaysia. The
resident orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Ajay Kumar Sharma recommended that we fitted
Daryl with a Spinecor dynamic brace at the TAGS centre. The physiotherapist
at TAGS worked with Daryl and taught him specific core muscle strengthening
exercises. These needed to be done at least twice every day. The brace can only
be removed twice a day, and each time, for no longer than 2 hours. He must sleep
with the brace on, and we needed to return every 3 months to Malaysia for the
brace adjustment.
